We all have our dreams of climbing up the New York Times bestseller list. We fanaticize about attending book signings where we hold the Sharpie. We imagine the joy of handing out that first copy of our book to friends and family, a proud smile of accomplishment stretched across our face.
But success doesn’t just happen overnight.
Unless you’re one in a million, as a writer you have to start from the bottom and build your craft through blood, sweat, and tears. You might get a lucky break, but most of the time the path is long and the journey is rough. You have to work hard. Everyday. And most of the time it might feel like no one appreciates your work.
But writing is such an important part of the world we live in today. Stories manage to capture something no other medium can. In the present they provide people with inspiration, deliver flawed yet relatable characters, and follow struggles that exist in our everyday lives. And that’s only half of the appeal. A timeless story will linger. Decades later it still manages to stick in our social world, cataloguing the essence of a time and place in the past.
But we wouldn’t have stories if it weren’t for the people who write them. So in order to celebrate my appreciation of the people behind the prose, I’ve sat down with some fellow writers to get a look at what they do and who they are. Some of them are just starting out, some of them have achieved success, and still others are somewhere in between. But all of them have a story to tell.
So it is my pleasure to announce a new series on this blog where I’ll be introducing you to some different writers I’ve come to know. Stick around this year to meet this amazing group of people and read some of their truly inspiring work. Who knows, maybe you’ll discover the next New York Times bestseller!
